Do I need to get naked?

Sometimes clients are unsure of the getting undressed part of a massage. In massage school we were taught to say, “Undress to your level of comfort” but I always thought that was a bit vague.

At Natural Balance you can take off as much or as little clothing as you see fit. Of course you will climb onto the table and get under the sheets. We don't want to see you stark naked any more than you want us to!

Here is some more detail about undressing for a massage and how we will help you maintain your modesty:
First, your therapist will leave the room before you take off so much as a sock.  Most people disrobe completely or leave just their underwear on. Others prefer to leave more clothing on which may alter the techniques used but all of the above are perfectly fine. By the time the therapist comes back in the room (she will knock so you know the door is about to open) you will be on the table under the sheet and blanket feeling pretty cozy.

When we work on an arm, we fold the sheet back and tuck it under your arm so it’s secure and not drafty. Same goes for the leg. You’ll never be left feeling exposed or chilly. When we work on the full back, we fold the drape down to your hips. If you’re wearing underwear we will tuck the sheet under the waistband, to protect your clothes from massage oil.

If you decided to leave on some articles of clothing we can work with that. There are effective massage techniques that can be done over clothing. If we aren't able to effectively treat an issue through the clothing we can figure out an alternative. If we had a prior discussion regarding certain areas that you would prefer not be touched, then they won’t be touched.

It’s important to the therapeutic process that you feel comfortable enough to relax your muscles and your mind. Whether that means you leave some clothing on or take it all off is completely your choice. There is no right or wrong, this is your massage.
